Lawrence Thomas joins the 100-game club

Melbourne goalkeeper Victory Lawrence Thomas made his 100e Hyundai A-League appearance in Friday night’s 3-1 elimination final victory over Wellington Phoenix.

Thomas made his debut with Victory in 2011, coming off the bench to play his part in a 2-2 draw with Brisbane Roar.

Since then, the keeper has kept 24 clean sheets and won 51 of his 100 A-League games.

The 26-year-old is currently enjoying his seventh season as a Victory player and has been a regular Kevin Muscat first choice since 2016.

Here are some of the highlights of Thomas’ victory so far, starting with the most obvious:

Medalist Joe Marston 2018

Thomas’ heroic performance in the 2018 A-League Grand Final earned him the Joe Marston medal, becoming the second goalkeeper to achieve the feat since 2006.

On the night, Thomas made a catalog of incredible saves, including a memorable double save in the first half.

Thomas’ bravery earned him a clean sheet for the Grand Final, a second A-League championship medal and an abundance of head bandages.

Thomas played an important role in the later stages of Victory’s double-winning season in 2014/2015 – keeping four clean sheets in seven appearances.

In the grand final at AAMI Park, Thomas held Sydney at bay for 90 minutes – securing an emphatic 3-0 victory over rivals Big Blue.

Goals from Besart Berisha, Kosta Barbarouses and Leigh Broxham sealed Thomas’ first taste for Grand Final glory.

A five-star performance

In the final round of the 2015/2016 season, Brisbane Roar traveled to AAMI Park in need of a win to be crowned Premier A-League.

In just his fifth campaign appearance, Thomas frustrated visitors with a slew of top-notch saves, including one face-to-face with Jamie Maclaren.

At the end of the match, Brisbane’s last chance went to James Donachie. Once again, Thomas went undefeated and turned down Roar’s offer to finish at the top of the standings.
